Yes, I have heard that as well, always turn off engine with lever ahead... on the Oliver over/under shift you should always turn off in direct.

Your TA sounds to be completely shot. That will require splitting the tractor, twice. You need to split at the bell housing/clutch area and again split the middle section away from the transmission/rearend.

A rebuilt TA unit is anywhere from $400 to $600 plus core charge. While you have it apart you will also want to put in a new TA clutch, and probably main clutch as well so you don't have to go back in there for a long, long time.

Yes, the TA can be used constantly - the main things that make a TA go out are: rolling backwards while in gear, freewheeling while the TA is in low range, and shifting the TA too slowly.

Hi
I just fixed one on a 460 that had a bad clutch now am working on a 340 that has a bad ramp that acts like yours. It doesn't hurt the ta to use it all time as long as you are pulling a load as it does't hold back down hill it freewheels downhill which is not good for it. If you want you can call me and I will explain more the # 859 289 8818 6 to 10PM eastern time.

It sounds like your ramp is either out or you may have broken a sungear. Depending on what your tractor does when you shift it. I have the t/a or parts to rebuild in stock. If interested feel free to send me an email. I also show a couple different t/a"s fitting the 460 be sure to measure the bearing area of the back gear and also the tooth length to get the correct part you need.
