Need to get clear on the way to start an MD in gas mode. To start on gas, compression release lever would be pulled down , towards the operators feet? Engine speed lever would be pushed in the down positon also toward the operators feet to start in gas mode? To switch to diesel both levers go to their opposite position. Is this correct ? Having trouble starting it and figure I may be in wrong mode. Thanks

I think some of the manuals say to push the switchover lever down or back for starting on gas. I think that must be for the W series or is a misprint. All that I have ever seen, (and on the one I own) you push the switchover lever forward. It should stay there on it's own. If it does not, something in the linkage is messed up. So to start, switchover lever forward and the diesel speed control lever all the way down in the shut off position. Mine takes full choke to start and then you fiddle with the choke to keep it running. Rarely takes more than two turns to start. After warming for a couple of minutes, pull back the starting lever and advance the diesel speed control at the same time. If the engine is warm enough and all working as it should, it should then be running on diesel.
