Bought this 560 gas with loader for snow removal this fall...they changed oil in it before I bought it ..they have 15-40 in it...just wondering what is a good winter oil for engine for easy starts...it has a tank heater on it... but I think the 15-40 gets pretty stiff in cold winter....live in North Eastern South Dakota..gets pretty cold....

I usually use 10-30 in the winter months, but when I don't around to changing from 15-40...I've never noticed a differance. And this is in the same area as you are.
(BTW: There was a Tom Lee in my class in NE SD)

I live down by Mitchell, SD. I switch to 5-30 in the winter for the tractors and 5-20 for the autos. Read the reccomendations on the manuals and on the oil containers themselves. 5-20 is good up to 90 degrees. Don't think we will see that for awhile

Perhaps we can get a mini RPRU with the SD guys this spring. Or better yet all meet at the tractor parade day in Fulton in the fall. That's getting to be a good event.

Tom: I'd stick with the 15W-40 whether your plugging it in or not. I've used that oil for years here in Canada, in diesels and gassers with twice the cubic inches of your 560. Often times they were miles away from electricity for plugging them in.

Well I know that over here in north east Ohio back in 77and 78 during the blizzards we hit 35 below and my 460 gasser and my 706 gasser both started with out any block heater setting in a three side pole barn with 30 weight and they both had not run since nov. and this was late jan. My super H will start at -30 below setting under a tarp with 30 weight .Just don't as it to start a -35 and don't ask me to get out on a tractor at them temps. That is why they made snow plows for pickups .

I think having that tank heater will warm the engine and may warm the oil. Hal

15w-40 will be fine if you are plugging in the block heater when it gets below about 10 degrees or so...

If you don't plan on plugging it in, I'd go with 10w or 10w-30.

I use 15-40 year around in my H SMTA and 560D.
Use them all winter to plow snow and blow snow.
