I looked at a W-9 today that I would like to add to my collection. I noticed that the flywheel was open on either side of the tractor. Is that a normal condition for the tractor. I have had no exposure to W-9"s in my area. I am interested since it is available and relatively close to home. It would complete my letter saeries in horsepower categories.

Mike

It sounds as though you might be missing the felt that goes into those slots... no big deal at all.

If it is missing the clutch cover there would be nothing to hold up the fuel tank and or air cleaner. the W9s have a wide gap between the frame rail and engine.. about 3/4" had a felt in there from the factory.. other then that it is closed.. Dan

here is a picture from the parts book on the chassis and rear axle housing. i"d guess you are missing #5 clutch compartment cover

Glennster, you provided the answer in a picture and it is consistent with the other answers. From the picture, I can see that it is the felt strip that I need on each side of the engine block. As I described, the open areas are on each side of the engine block and item #6 in the parts diagram is the missing part.

Thank all of you for the responses.

Mike

mwilke, heres a pic of my w-9, i really like the ole girl, dualed up she looks like a fat baby in tight diapers. she will pull a 14 ft disk, or 3-18 plow no problem. i have power steering on mine and a pto mount hydraulic pump. real comfortable tractor to drive too!!!

Glennster, it looks loke you have a nice line going there, I have a W-6, Super H, C and a Cub that all run. I have a SC that I bought with some implements that doesn't run. Do you have any idea what is a fair price for the W-9? It is in MO and does not anything but a PTO-no hyd or pulley & wrong seat. Have't heard it run.

Thanks

The tractor is missing the "clutch compartment cover". It is a casting and is held on with four bolts and a dowel pin.

Are you talking about the top casting? The exposure I am talking about is on the sides. There a cover on top of the flywheel

Thanks

You have had two opportunities to describe the opening. What about the shape? What about the size? A picture would be even better.
