Started SMTA & noticed oil being pushed out of the fill cap breather on the pto. The pto lever was not locked in the off position & the pto was turning. When I locked the lever in the off position, the leak stopped. Haven't added or changed oil in pto. What would cause this?
Thanks-DC5724

We replaced the seal on ours a few years ago and it still leaks. The shaft must be worn or I dinged the seal installing it. Anyway, until you replace your seal, just drain the excess oil out of the PTO housing occasionally. Tom

the seal on the PTO input is allowing oil from the rearend to enter the PTO and overfilling it . NOw there are two ways to fix this problem , (1) is to remove the PTO unit and replace the seal or (2) add a longer pice of pipe to raise the breather up above the rearend oil level. then when the rear seal starts to leak then ya fix both at the same time . Not the wright way but it works.
