I JUST REMOVED THE PTO SEAL FROM MY '47 H. IT HAD TWO SEALS (INNER AND OUTER). I CALLED THE IH DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS CHANGED AND NOW ONLY TAKES ONE SEAL. WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE ELSE RAN INTO THIS PROBLEM. IT'S PROBABLY AN EASY PROBLEM, BUT I'M NEW TO IH. THANKS!

Your H originally had just one extra wide seal. Since you removed two seals from yours, the original had already been replaced. If you could compare the original to the new seal, you would quickly realize that it might be a good idea to install two new seals, just like what you removed. Probably a good idea also to pack some grease in between the two new seals because the outer seal will recieve no lubrication otherwise.

You can put in two of the new seals to get away from the wear spot of the old leather seals. The new ones are much thinner than the original. I replaced them on my 49 h two years ago still no leaks. The IH dealer recommended this.

I replaced mine a year ago. Just a single seal. No leaks so far. Used the pto quite a bit this summer baling hay.
