Am trying to add power steering on a 350 Farmall. Got all the components from a salvage yard including Behlen unit, safety/priority valve, and left most hydraulic control valve. Fired unit up and only have power steering when I move one of the control valves forward or backward against plugged lines. Anyone have any thoughts as to what my problem might be?

Did you put the orfice blocking plug in passage before installing left control valve?

Think maybe IH already designed the hydraulic system before they thought about adding power steering. Anyway with the pressure regulator and priority valve for power steering installed the fluid flow for one port is redirected through the U shaped pipe and the port thats used when just a pressure regulator and relief valve is used is blocked with the plug. Its just a small slip in plug that goes in lower hole of the 3 on the support tower and the oring seals it. If your lucky it may still be stuck in tractor it was removed from. If you can't find one I have used a 1/4 inch pipe plug that uses a allen wrench to install. Tap hole with 1/4 inch pipe tap and catch all cuttings, screw plug in untill flush or slightly below surface.

I second the comment of Randy above! I would have spent many moons trying to figure out what was wrong. It is awfully nice of you to be so helpful! I was about to look at an auxiliary hydraulic pump driven off the fan belt to run the power steering!

I have a IH 300 utility that I got last year and it came with power steering, however it is doing the exact same thing as this 350. It only works when I am using the lift. Should I be looking for the same plug? I would appreciate any help, I have had this thing apart many times and I can't find anything damaged or broken. Thank you
Gary

I'm mostly a row crop person and have only worked on powertrain of utility models. Can't say how the fluid flows in that set up. Defective or worn parts in the priority valve will have the same symptom as described also. Sorry I can't be of more help.

I would have to guess that you don't have the priority valve plumbed right.

There are two outlets on the bottom of the priority valve - a small one that goes to the Behlen unit and a large one that connects to the back of the left most hydraulic control valve via a u tube. I have two of those valves here and they both work the same!
