Spark plug wires won't fit?

I put the spark plugs in and tried to press on the wires. I though I would feel a snap, or a pop, when they engaged. But I can't get that. And when I tug them they come right off with no effort. What am I doing wrong? How should I get the wires over the new plugs?

I think Old may have it. sounds like the connector is spread a bit. If you can get the boot to slip back a little and get needle nose pliers into the hole just compress the conncetor till it grabs.

Janicholson said: I would put them on the old plugs in your hand first. A bit of Silicon spray is valuable. If they are new, they will take some force to put on. Plug wire pliers have special plastic grippers to firmly hold the rubber insulator. Don't mangle the wires with regular pliers. JimN

I may have some silicon spray. But I don't have plug wire pliers. Any home remedy for that?

When I have plug wires like that I just squeeze them a little bit and try again. Some times the ends get spread and they will not hold like they should.

Duct tape on the jaws of regular slip joint pliers to keep damage from happening. Jim
