The parts book lists a special washer for the six capscrews that hold the cover to the governor, 28 950D. My governor had standard lock washers. Anyone know what these are supposed to be?? Also, the book shows a special capscrew, 364489R1, along with a standard capscrew attaching the governor connecting rod housing to the governor. What is this? A shoulder bolt for locating the housing? I quess I wasn't paying attention when I disassembled this stuff three years ago.

Jim answered one question, for the other I think you have a late parts book. 1954 TC 49 printing shows lock washers. Can't remember for sure when they started using the special washers on the governors,it was on 300,400 or,350,450 tractors.

Strange. I have TC-49 too and my copy shows the special washer. Do you know what the special washer looks like or why they went to it on the later models??

Don't know why they changed washers, but its the same washer used on the waterjacket cover on side of engine block on your tractor. Thin machine washer if I remember correct. Does your TC 49 have the date it was printed on it? Sometimes in the last parts books IH put out for tractors they put the later parts or numbers in. If your book isn't printed 1955 or later let me know and I will double check on the washers. Also going by my memory, that could be wrong the Super H used lock washers originaly.

Sure enough, I have the book dated '59. Guess I'll stick with the lock washers. Thanks for the help.

Checked 1959 printing of TC 49 parts book and it showes the late machine washer for the bolts the same as your parts book. The 1954 printing showes lock washers. Checked some other parts books on tractors using the same governor housing and all printed in 1955 still show the lock washers. Think I remember governors from tractors with the machine washers showing up in 1956 and 57. Also like your parts book a 1959 printing of a SM parts book showes the later part # for bolt and washer and early parts book showes different # for bolt and a lock washer. Do I have you confused? Bolts with holes for seal, 2 in upper holes of cover, one in outside of top casting. Wire cable through all three in a loop.

They could be the drilled bolts (of prior discussion) that are used with the anti tamper seal on the system? JimN

On further examination of the parts book I see that the special capscrew for the linkage housing is the same number as the two drilled capscrews for the cover. Now, does the wire and seal go through all three??
