I am rebuilding my F-20 engine and have a couple questions. There will be more I am sure and to all who have answered all the questions I have asked so far thank you very much. I have ordered the service manual but haven't received it yet. Anyway, I want to know how to remove the flywheel. Is it the very large nut holding it to the crank? Is there a keeper or anything else? Also is it OK to support the engine block on a stand using the 3 threaded holes in the flywheel? They fit my engine stand perfectly.

I was even lazier. I just threaded in long bolts in each puller hole. These were turned against the back of the bellhousing. By alternately tighting the bolts, the flywheel was pushed off the crank. Just turn the flywheel so the 3 bolts press against the housing, not mounting bolts.

While you have this tore down this far make sure the main bearings are smooth. By that I mean turn the crank and listen and feel. Mine was stuck when I got it and I went all thru the engine and got it together to find that one of the rollers was very noisy.

when I did mine I ended up getting a very large gear puller and it came off really hard. behind the nut is a round tappered pin that will need to be relined up when you put it back togather. I remember that being real fun to get lined up. Paul

Scott,

I've taken a few flywheels off using some heavy angle iron. I use two pieces and line them up with those three holes in your flywheel. The angle iron will rest against the bell housing. Then get yourself some threaded rod and some nuts to fit those threaded holes in the flywheel. Screw the threaded rod into those holes and use the nuts on the other side of the angle iron to pull the flywheel off. Just make sure you use equal pressure. Only the nut and pressure hold the flywheel on. I would not mount the engine stand to the flywheel. Just what I do.

Great idea. I have lots of steel lying around so that is what I'll do. Thanks
