Where can I buy a ballast resistor from for my Farmall 450? I called NAPA and gave them the part number shown on the wiring diagram but they weren't able to come up with anything. Anyone know who sells them???

Dave

Kansas Select Products has an e-bay store that sells all sorts of products for 6 to 12 volt conversions. I just bought 3 voltage drop resistors last week. They also carry wiring harness and alternator brackets for different brands of tractors.

If you can't find one locally, they'll have what you want.

As the others say, a MOPAR unit is pretty close.

Myself, I would at least price one through the CNH dealer, and use the "real thing" if the cost is not too prohibitive. (At least if you are still "running" the original coil.)

The resistors DO vary a bit between applications.

The 4-cylinder MAY have more "dwell" than a 6 or 8 cylinder unit (due to the 3 of cylinders AND the distributor cam profile), and the ballast resistance and the coil MAY vary a bit, accordingly. This IS true for some applications, I can't say for SURE for this one.

ANYHOW, the OEM unit is the safest bet, especially if the cost isn't TOO prohibitive.

I do it the simple way. I ask for a ballast resister for a mid 70s dodge car or truck. Say a 1974 dodge pickup and they hand me just what I need. Be sure you ask for the 2 wire type not the 4 wire since they did use both

Ive seen em at Rural King or Tractor Supply or Central Tractor type stores before as well as NAPA. Typical voltage dropping (12 to 6) ignition ballast resistors are wirewound power resistors in a white ceramic/bakelite "bathtub" enclosure and measure somewhere around 1.25 to 1.85 ohms typically ..... .....and were used on GM and Chrysler products way back when lol. Some of the gents have the Echlin PN, I dont have it handy

David - Ask for a ballast resistor for any Chrysler vehicle built between 1960 thru the mid-70's.

NAPA #ICR-13 or Standard Ignition #RU-10 are good numbers.

You need to call another Napa store. ECHICR13 is the P/N I have listed. Our Napa has them. 410-272-7110. Hal

Just called my NAPA store back up, got a different person, gave him the ECHICR-13 part #. He knew just what I needed, referred to them as ICR-13, told me they had them in stock and told me how much they cost.

Go figure.

Thanks for all your responses.
