I bought a replacement cat 1 top link from the new holland dealer up the road and the small adjuster bar that goes through the center holes of top link was not installed. How do I get it in through the holes? Do I just bang it through? I feel like an idiot.

What steel did you use for the components? JimN

JimN,

For the bracket to mount the front part of the lift arm to the tractor I used 1" steel my uncle had from a cut up bridge. I bought the lift-arms new, I believe they are tempered and for the lever and the lift arm leveler are used from a worksaver kit I got new in box from someone who was cleaning out their garage for $40. From the worksaver kit I am also re-using the rock shaft bracket for the top link and the brackets that mount to where the draw bar mounts. Hugh sent me some great plans. I should be done in the next week or so. Trying to figure out which is the best weld joint on 1" steel from a welding class book.

"V" groove the weld to allow multi passes then weld it flat (makes it easy and comfortable) Make sure you chip and grind the slag out on each pass so there are no inclusions. 7014 or 7018 are nice rod. JimN

Thanks, I guess sometimes a big hammer will solve your problems...

Hugh,

I cut and drilled the steel for the brackets yesterday. Today I am going to prep them for welding. I am hoping by next week I will be operational. I am still waiting for my seal kit to arrive for the hydraulic pump.

Get a nice big hammer and bang it through.
