i just bought a W6, it drives fine but the transmission whines a bit more than i think it should. also, shifting lever has a little too much resistance when changing gears or when moving side to side in neutral. someone told me all this is common on these machines, is this true? any other idea?

I would guess the ring gear and pinion are not set correctly or a bad pinion bearing Could be a gear was changed and not mating with the old one.Does it whine in all gears or just fifth

I would suggest changing the oil in it first before you tear it apart. Maybe try adding some of the Lucas oil stabilizer as well. I have a W-6, nice looking tractors.
