GOT A 544 WITH A STANDARD DRAW BAR WANT TO SWITCH TO A 2PT OR 3PT. WHATS BETTER? I LIKE THE DOWN PRESSURE OF THE 2PT BUT EVERYBODY SEEMS TO PREFER 3PT. WHAT YOU THINK?

Geezze-Every farm has to have an old fast hitch Farmall; they replaced the hydraulic jack 56 years ago. Fast Hitch is neat and out of the way for short tight turns with the haybine, etc. But if you want a useful hitch to do work with, a good 3-pt is where it's at. And by the way, International's 3-pt was THE best.

2 point on a 544 will not have down pressure. I have a 460 it has down pressure, I have a 706 with 2 point it does not. I have a 756 with 3 point, and I will take the 2 point over it any day and use adapters to convert to 3 point.

Jimmy, I would think the 2pt on your 706 and your 544 should have down pressure. I think all tractors with 2pt can have down pressure. Around here you can not get a moldboard plow in the ground without a little down pressure. Tools like a grader blade would be kind of worthless also. There is usually a pin that needs put in a hole on one of the arms to get down pressure. Either that or they have a one way cylinder on them.

Bob like Hugh said the only difference between the 2 point and 3 point on the 06 and 56 series is the 3 point arms and the 2 point yoke, no down pressure.

After I read my post I realized I screwed up. The pin for down pressure is in the bottom bracket where the cylinder mounts. The 460 also has pins in the arms that somewhat has to do with down pressure also, though. I don't know how the arms look on a 544.

Bob: All fast hitches on 04, 06, 44, 56, etc. use the same rockshaft as the 3 point hitch.

So, they don't have any down pressure then? I saw a 3pt tool one time for driving fence posts. That wouldn't work on one of these tractors, then, would it?

Bob: I thought I had seen all nature of post drivers, this sounds like a new one on me. This one must have relied on tractor housing weight.

I had a 3 point hitch post driver on the farm. It had a vertical boom with a big weight that would slide up and down the boom, kind of like mini pile driver. I modified that one made it quick attach on my skid loader boom.

chuck Dad had 3pt when I was a kid, have a subcompact tractor now, but worked on and used 2pt. I take 2pt over 3pt any day but 3pt is all that is made today. Yot 544 or anything after 460, 560 will not have down pressure.

Hi Bent, I have both, it depends a lot on what use you have in mind. I am a dairy farmer, my chore tractor will always have 2 point. I was amaized when I got the 450D, it is so much more handy there is no comparesion. When it is zero or below and you switch from manure spreader to feeder wagon to hammermill, the only problem is when you have to use another tractor the jack stands are froze from lack of use. And hooking the pto shafts is so much nicer without the 3 point arms in the way. The only real drawback the two point has is ground clearance, I use one with 3 point to cut hay. I also like the 2 point for the plow, my 856 gets used for many different jobs and it is so much easier to hitch. Good luck, Chuck
