In at least 2 paragraphs my I-T book says to torque the valve cover bolts to 25 ft-lbs. I did just that and it really pulled the rocker cover in. After thought, it seems like way to much. Is this right?

NO IT IS NOT 25 ft. lbs IT IS 25 inch lbs. Huston you have a problem now .Don't know what IT manual ya got that out of . Thats like in the one JD. IT manual it tell ya to torque the rear axle housing bolts to 185 ft. lbs And that is wrong for a 5/8th grade 5 bolt Just ask my buddy he figured that out after he broke five in a row , he was just lucky that he did not pull the threads out of the housing. . This was on a 3020 Now just think what would have happened if they would have not broke at the shop and broke out in the field on a hill side. One has to stop and think a bit as BOOKS can be wrong as they were printed by people and people do make mistakes. Don't care who's book as over the years even in factory service manuals there has been misprints . So Grasshopper this was a learning experince . Ya may be able to take and thump it back into shape and retorque it the way it is suppose to be torqued .

It doesn't leak, so I'm not going to touch it. I thought it could be a misprint, but it read that way in more than one place. Just wanted a second opinion. thanks.

Does it say 25 FT LBS or 25 IN LBS(inch pounds)? Twelve inch pounds = One foot pound. Dave.
