I am considering returning this red power engine kit and trying my luck with a kit from this site with Tisco pistons. Any experience out there??

Thank You,

I used the Tisco kits, but it has been a few years. I have never had to return anything from here.

I have had good luck with both the Redpower brand and the Tisco brand sold on this site. Sadly, like so many things, they are not made in North America any more (not that US companies never drilled crooked wrist pin holes!) Chances are, both Tisco and Redpower are both having their stuff made in India and/or China. Heck, we laughed at stuff made in Japan 40-50 years ago. Another point to remember, there are a lot of shops starting to carry the Redpower stuff, if they get too many "come-backs" they wouldn't being around very long. My guess is you got one from a bad production run.

The wrist pin holes were bored crooked. The guy that got them said he would get more pistons for that kit and see if he could get some straight ones. I told he that he better get a dozen or so, so I can pick and choose between them for the straightest ones, he just laughed, but I was serious. I'll probably wind up stripping the engine down, cleaning all the assembly lube off and repackaging everything and send that " pos kit" back, should have known better. Called Case and they get $249.00 per hole, piston, pin, rings, clips and liner, no bearings, gaskets, etc. If it were mine, I would bite the bullet and be done with it but this guy is on a budget.

I'm telling the owner to try a Tisco kit from this site instead. If he doesn't go along, I'll just tell him about how the nice, new, hot, oiley pieces will be his reminder for the next job. By the way, those pistons were Clevite. Who knows who made them though, no doubt thay came over on a boat.

Funny you bring this up. I purchased a set of red power pistons from Howard Industries last year for my Farmall B. I checked everything and it all looked fine until I installed the pistons in the block. Every one of them was crooked. They were off about 1/16" The domes on the pistons hit the combustion chamber on the front side. I ended up machining off the part of the dome that was rubbing instead of returning them. I wouldn't think Tisco would be any better. What ever happened to made in the USA?
