Hi all,
Just a quick question... What is the groove for on the I.D. of the rear axle cap? Owner's manual dosen't mention it. I Attached a photo(I Hope). Also, Here's some pictures of my 806 at a local plowday in August, 07. Thanks and enjoy !

Nothing goes in the groove. It is only on the top half, the bottom is open so any stray dirt straw or mud has a chance to fall out before it gets to the felt. Over the years they fill with grease and oil and dirt. It just needs to be scraped out.

If that is a diesel theres a lot of smoke for just 4 bottom. I pull 6-16's with mine and don't smoke like that. Even in old sod or wheat stubble.

Yeah, It's a diesel. Out where I was plowing, the soil is really heavy clay. And, it's cranked up some, too. I was sending it about 8 inches deep, most ther guys were, too. I made darn sure to go fast enough so that the 4020 guys weren't getting ahead of me, 2 of 3 were pulling the same plow. 4-16's John Deere.

Well, the felt washer I got from CNH fit in between the grease seal and the "wall" of the casting. It is the white piece visible in the above picture. All that was in there was a bunch of greasy crud when I took it off. I scraped it clean, don't know if I should do anything else with it. Thanks, Andy

It has been a couple of years since I had the axle out of my C but I think that the felt washer fits in there. I am looking at the parts diagram but it isn't clear what goes in there. It looks like it is about the right size for it.
