What kind of cultivator? Just light duty or a heavier chisel plow type. I have to disagree with a 9' true field cultivator being matched to a W-9. What kind of soil is that? A W-9 will pull a 14' field cultivator such as a John Deere model CC, (BT,DT)

IHC made what they called a spring tooth cultivator in the sizes 6',8' and 10' I don't know why I said 9', I meant 10' It was the 10' that was usually paired up with a w9. We had an 8' on an M and in our heay clay loam conditions you often had to go in 3rd gear with harrows behind..it was a hard pull. In answer to the original poster, his H would not pull it. The original poster did not specify what kind of cultivator it was but if its really 9' its not an IHC

Thanks. I"m sure it"s the soil differences that come into play here. The W-9 with 14" cultivator from my past was on the great plains of North Dakota in small grain country.

As pointed out it is too big. But if the price is very good, cutting it down, or removing shanks would be optional. JimN

Usually 8' cultivators went with the M and 6' cultivators went with the H. A 9' would work with an M but was usually paired with a W9..in their day they were considered "big" equipment. These field cultivators were to work up the ground to prepare the seed bed, usually you had harrows behind the cultivator and two passes over the field made a good seed bed.
