SA hydraulic pump - looks like O-ring instead of seal?

I poked around the caseih site looking through parts diagrams and it looks like my pump is supposed to have an O-ring and not the oil seal. I guess anyway. Looks to be part number 353836R1 for pump 05101202003. I think my best bet would be to go to the dealer at this point and order the proper kit/seal.

Now the question... Where would this go? Does it go on the inside of the pump or just under the gear? I have not yet opened the pump but took the gear off and there wasn't anything there. I didn't want to split open the pump if I didn't have to. I have been looking at the I&T and another diagram I found on here but am still scratching my head.

Sorry for all the questions on what should be a simple thing.

Steve

I think I figured it out... Thanks to all! in reply to SteveNH, 11-07-2007 16:06:57
I split the case of the pump. I used a pick to get the O-ring out, it is a little worn. The shaft has minimal wear, I guess I will try to rebuild it and see what happens, looks like it should be ok though. That weird looking spring/gasket was very worn as well. Looks like I can get those parts still according to the caseih web site - hopefully they have the kit and I can replace everything that can be replaced. I will try the local dealer tomorrow.

I love these old machines, I still find 1940's engineering/technology amazing. I worked the tractor this weekend by pulling out and moving 12' overgrown shrubbery. It's almost like the old tractors are stubborn and will take on what you give them out of some sort of spite.

Thanks for all of the help along the way!

Here's the parts breakdown on your pump. It should be item No4. Hal

The "O"ring is under the gear, (it has to come off), but it is also inside the housing, and the housing must be split (longways) to get the shaft out of it.
Once there, the "O"ring needs to be pulled out of its groove in the housing (a stiff thin wire works, or a dental pick). Look at the shaft closely if there is a groove in it, a speedy sleeve needs to be pressed on to resurface the shaft, and the housing will need to be machined out to allow the speedy sleeve to enter, and the "O"ring to fit deeper. I think NAPA will have, or get the sleeve. I do not think there is a kit, but I might be wrong on that. JimN
