On all the 806"s I have seen they carry the McCormick label on the side. On 706"s I have seen the McCormick label also, but in a used tractor magazine I see what is advertised as a 1963 gas 706 with "International" on the side. When did IH shed the McCormick label, and how did they acquire it?

Hey Hugh,
Don't usually disagree with you about anything but wasn't the 656 introduced in 1965? Have one with a 10xxx serial # and one list shows it to be a 65.

Tractorman: Your right, 656 had it's beginnings in 65, my omission. I should have worded it pre 1967 Farmall 656s.

I'm told one of Mr. Fay's or Mr. Updike's book claim McCormick disappeared from IH tractors and equipment at the end of 67. I have 3 items of literature either mailed to me from or I picked up at the IH dealer all dated 1968, and I've had those since 1968. First is buyers guide, second features Farmalls and third dwells on 56 series Farmall and wheatland. In all those photos the hood decal is INTERNATIONAL, no McCormick anywhere. Farmalls have the word Farmall on top of model badge. One exception, the lowly Farmall 140, I still has Farmall as main hood decal with McCormick in small print. It changed in 69.

The 06 series Farmalls were labled McCormick and the wheatland or standard tractors wer labled International. Starting with the 66 series ( and maybe a few of the last 56 series) the McCormick name was dropped. With the 86 series the Farmall name was dropped.

Howard: The only 56 series that ever had McCormick was 656 first two years (1966 and 67).

EB: The name McCormick disappeared during 1967-68. The 06 tractors were either International or Farmall with McCormick in small print under the above. With a couple of exceptions, 56 series were all INTERNATIONAL, McCormick was gone and if it was a Farmall, that appeared on model badge.

The exceptions were 656 and 140. 656 being introduced two full years before the rest of 56 lineup had Farmall and McCormick in 66 and 67. 140 didn't get changed until sometime in 69.

McCormick bought up many companies including Deering, Plano, Milwaukee and many more to form The IHC. The tractors and equipment were McCormick Deering until 1947 or 48 when the last Deering involved with the company died,. Then the McCormick name was used by itself. Not sure of exact year that McCormick was dropped from tractors, but it was the same deal.
