Well I took the whole cooling system apart today, and flushed out the block. Thermostat rotten, and a lot of cotton like stuff, and feathers coming out in blobs. I don't think the former owner had a cap on the radiator in the barn. Anyway radiator is plugged very bad, weight 71 lbs. The radiator is full of the same stuff the block, and thermostat was full of. Will take it to the shop Monday and order a new thermostat. Thanks to all you guys that post on this sight. I would have never figured out the radiator removal with out reading this sight.

That would explain the reduced capacity refered to in the earlier post. And does a good job with the causal relationship of fluff to cooling system operation. Good, and welcome to this forum. JimN

better check the cylinder head and block for mice if they got in the radiator. the super m i am working on right now had sat in the barn for many years. mice got in the radiator, cylinder head water passages were packed with pink house insulation, as was the clutch housing. when i pulled the manifold off, there was a mouse sitting in the exhaust port.
