I AM RESTORING A F-20 AND I HAVE GOT ALL THE PARTS COLLECTED NOW. BUT I CAN'T SEEM TO FIND A TORK SETTING FOR THE ROD BOLTS AND WHAT SHOULD I SPACE THE VALVES AT? THANKS STEWART

I've always gone 90 ft.lbs. of torque on the head bolts and 35 to 40 ft.lbs. of torque on the rod bolts.

Hi Stewart,I set the valves at .012-.014 cold, the owner's manual says .009 hot. I have never seen a published value for the rods or headbolts, as for the rods the clearance is more important than the torque value, I try to get the shims right and then tighten the caps down good, then check to make sure the rod bearing is not tight on the journal. For the headbolts I go 100lbs. with clean, oiled threads, but I am always nervous as the only headbolt I ever broke was on the first F20 I had.
