I've been thinking of changing my Super M from 6 to 12 volt. I would like to keep the generator look, and am wondering if I could use a 12 volt generator from a Super MD, Delco #1100964?? If I could use this 12 volt generator, and changed to a 12 volt regulator, coil, and lights, what else would I need to change? Would the wiring diagram be the same for the Super M and MD? I haven't been able to locate a wiring diagram for a Super MD. Has anyone ever done a conversion like this? Thanks!

Danto Make sure the battery ground is go also, yes use big cables. Had a 400 and other's that did not start any better with 12V with the firscrater pistons.

some one told me once that coverting my Cub to 12 volts was unnessicary, as it was a small sized tractor and 6 volts was plenty. but i was tired of dead batteries and dim lights at 330 in the morning when i had to plow snow to gte out for work. i added a alternator to my cub, because you can't see it under the hood. but i am trying to talk my grandpa in what your doing on your M. i figure convert the gen to 12 volts, coil, voltage regulator, lights and battery, and it would be a low dollar converstion. my 2 cents.

Forget the conversion, and don't go to the local parts store either, call a good marine or boat dealer and get 0/1 meaning o gauge 1 wire run that on your M for all cables,I have it on mine with a 580cca battery turns over like it should and it's been rebuilt.

I've had the starter checked out at a repair shop, have put new cables on, and wire brushed where the starter attaches to the clutch housing to be sure of a good ground, and with a new well charged 6 volt battery it still just barely turns it over. The engine does have fire crater pistons in it, so I'm thinking the added compression is too much for the six volts. I would prefer to leave it as a six volt system, but also would like for it to crank over better. I have the spare 12 generator, so is the the reason I would like to use it, plus will look more original with it rather than with an alternator. I apreciate everyones help. Would it hurt anything to hook a 12 volt battery to the starter to just see how it turns it over. Will it hurt the 6 volt gen or coil? Thanks again!!

Do it, Checking connections, and wire looms for chafing is a good idea. put no lamps in it that draw more watts than the 6V. the dimming resistor can only handle that amount. JimN
