Would an original '40s IH wide front be interchangable from an M to a 300? I'm helping a guy look for a wide front end for a 300 he just bought. I know of a broke down M close to me with a wide front. Was wondering if it would be an option for him.

The 4 big bolts that go to the main cast iron bolster are the same.

The bolt pattern for the steering arm is smaller on a 300, and the frame rails are narrower on a 300 so modifications would be necessary for the rear supports.

I swapped my front end from a 450 to an H with minimal fuss.

I think it MIGHT fit, but it would not be original for a 300.

The bolt pattern for the four bolts that connect the vertical steering portion of the front end bolster shaft on the 300 will be smaller than the one on the M and I believe it uses different diameter bolts as well. I have seen the two connected by hogging out bolt holes and using undersized fasteners-- not a good way to treat machines. Dick Davis
