Need to put a new steering wheel on my Farmall 450. Removed the nut and expected to clearly see how the steering wheel slipped over the splined shaft. To my surprise I couldn't see any sign of how it came off. Tried hitting it a bit on the backside of wheel to break it loose but didn't help. Sprayed everything good with WD40 and plan to head back tonight to try to get it off again.

What am I missing???

Also, for those who tried to help me figure out why tractor wouldn't start, I didn't have much luck yet. Seemed to be a little condensation inside distributor cap and a bit of corrosion on wires. Wiped out cap good to dry off, cleaned of little bit of corrosion on wires, cleaned points, put on new condenser and rotor. Spark plug wrench I had would not fit plugs so couldn't check them. Tractor cam real close to starting but couldn't quite make it. After a few tries I think I may have flooded engine cause I saw gas dripping from hose connection where air intake connects to carb. That confused me and I had no way to pull plugs so I stopped. Been told I need a 7/8 socket for plugs so I'll try again tonight. I'm new and grouping in the dark but getting an education as I go. Thanks in advance for any help.

dave, for the starting problem, spray the inside of the distrib cap with w-d 40 and let it drip dry. if there is moisture in the cap, wiping it out wont get it. wd40 will displace the water. get a set of autolite 386 or 3116 spark plugs from napa, gap em at 025. pull the old plugs, remove hose going to carb from air cleaner, choke off, fuel off, throttle wide open. crank it a couple times to clear the fuel out of the motor. put the plugs in, gas on, set the throttle just over idle, no choke and try and start it. if she doesnt pop, give her a quick shot of ether into the carb and crank it. if the spark is good, and timing correct, she should start. if the tractor has sat for quite a while, you may want to give each clyinder a squirt of oil from an oil can down the spark plug hole , crank it over a couple times, then put plugs in and try and start it. the oil will bring the compression up a little if the rings are dry.

Most average pullers won't work, but if you have one that will the 450 steering wheel has 2 bolt holes that can be used with a puller for pulling steering wheel. If steering W. is a through away the plastic can be knocked off and hub heated or carefuly cut off from shaft. Recomend you loosen shaft collar and in front of U joint and slide shaft to rear some before doing that. Also after sliding shaft to rear some and with plastic removed from hub some pullers will work by catching behind hub.
