Just saw your post. and looked over what the other boys have had to say . Question here did ya do the set up for full throttle with the engine off where ya set the throttle wide open and adjust the rod ?? and all the rest of the set up ?? when ya had it all apart did ya see any unusual wear on any of the parts. as just a little can cause a bunch of lose in operation . The carb that you are using is it the one for the tractor. Does it have the correct throttle shaft ??? as sometimes the bellcrank in some after market kits are close but no cigar and here again a little off makes a bunch . Did ya use a factor spring or one that is close?? Now as far as the notches on the throttle when set wright they should be darn near wright on from top to bottom and sometimes ya can get just a wisker more past the stop. And since ya moved out of the service range i sure can't just run on up and have a look see.

Heya, Dan!

Yes, yes, yes and I think so. ;8^)

Did the adjustment to the carb with the engine off. Bob jumped in and suggested maybe tinkering with that for the low idle. What he suggested makes sense and I will try that. JimN mentioned the slop factor, but I really don't feel any.

Had her running full ahead at the seat while I was setting up the high idle with the top adjusting screw.

I hear ya about how a little bit of wear inside can make a big difference. When I was changing out the governor spring (factory replacement), I did think that the end of the internal arm on the governor, wher the top of the spring hooks, looked like the hole was egged out more than I'd like. That's the only weak spot I see.

And like you, I question the dimensions on the bellcrank on the throttle plate. I'm gamblin' on this being the correct carb, but I got the same number (Zenith 14007) going through Bermuda Ken and a couple other sources.

Whaddaya think about the two springs on either side of the block where the front end of the control rod hooks up to the governor? Could they be tired and out of balance and messin' me up? It'd be nice if it turns out to be that simple, but I got an idea that may have something to do with how far the contol lever is pulling back the arm on the governor. I got an awful feelin' though that the weak spot is the wear on that internal arm. 8^( Any fix for tha other than finding a good replacement?

Bein' outside the service area is a bummer. I used to be just about seven miles above Streetsboro, and might have tempted ya with a feed. But alas . . . I'll be grateful for any ideas you can come up with!

Well if ya have a big sloppy hole where the spring goes inside then that is half the problem , Find this alot on M's and H's . HEre is what i do on them . I pull them off and one of my old customers is a watch - clock maker and has this neat little machine shop in his basement We bore just enough out to make the hole round again then we make up a bronze bushing that has a hole just a weeeee bit bigger then the spring wire then champer the holes on both side so the spring will not bind and there ya have it .This is why it is not coming down to idle as when you move the throttle control it has to shove the gov. all the way back and HOLD it or it will creep on up . Fix that and see what happens then worry about the other springs. Oh yea i forgot to say that we press the bushing in and stake them in three places on both sides so the will stay put.

I was afraid you were gonna agree that that was the likely culprit, but I like the idea, and it happens there's a guy in the neigborhood could make just such a bushing for me and be glad to have the challenge. And he's three doors down the road from a machine shop, if he isn't up to boring thorugh the steel on the lever.

I've got to put the girl out of action for a while to deal with a bad bearing and seal, so that'll make an opportunity to get try that.

Thanks! and stay warm. The frost has already set on the car glass for tonight here.
