Wondering about this model tractor. How common. Value for one that is decent and in running condition not restored. My book shows only about 2700 made this year. What does the W-4 come standard with?

scott the w series was the standard version of the h. like cnks said it was designed for trailing implements. there were also orchard versions that had additional cowling for working around trees. seems like they are getting pretty hard to find around here, compared to the row crop tractors, there were no where near as many built. they were stout lil dudes, built for heavy drawbar work. they also had I...industrial versions too. i'd like to add a w-4 and w-6 to my barn. i have a w-9 now, its a fun tractor to drive. i spent a lot of time in my younger days on the 9 disking, plowing and pulling the field cultivator.

The year doesn't make any difference as to value, condition sets the price. Nearly 3400 were built in 1941, little less than 34000 from 1949-1953. They were designed to pull trailing implements, no provision for mounted implements. Used mainly in small grain country where cultivating was not done. Belt pulley, PTO, starting and lighting were the main options.
