I have been comparing paints for my "46 Farmall M. A person said that Van sickle paint is good paint. They have a good qaulity paint selection and a best qaulity paint selection. In the best paints they have "case IH red", and in the good qaulity paints they Have "IH Red." Are they the same or what one should I get. I"ve heard Case Ih paint is for the new tractors.

I on the other hand have had real good luck with Van Sickle - the secret is to put hardener in the paint before you spray it on - then it dries fast and gets hard - stays shiney for many years and it polishable. But if you do not use the hardener it just gets chalky.

Van Sickley paint is what I call it! It fades and becomes chalky, but I do have to give it credit for being tough! I painted a tractor close to 15 yrs ago with it, (Green, but don't hold it against me.) It was a shed kept tractor 99.9999% of it life, only coming out to mow my hay field. It still faded and became chalky. I found a correct seat for the tractor, and took the one that had been on it forever off and sandblasted it to use it on a "RED" tractor, where it actually belonged.... That paint was like trying to sandblast rubber. It came off, but not without a fight. I s'pose the moral is, if you just want to protect it, Van Sickley may be fine, but if its gotta look good, go elsewhere!

They are both antiquated paints -- alkyd enamel that was developed in the 30's. If left outside it requires frequent waxing to prevent excessive fading. If you don't want to spend a lot of money buy Case-IH 2150. It's the wrong color, as it did not appear until 1961, but is the only color sold by Case-IH, except that for the Magnums, etc. There were 3 other colors before 2150 came out. I have no idea which one Van Sickle mimics, if any at all.

I wish my camera was working right now, Id show you a pic of one my Farmall Ms painted with Van Sickle paint, its pink now! Paint is only 6 or 7 years old.
My Cub is painted with IH 2150 I pikced up at my now out of business dealer, still looks as good as the day I put it on.
One of my other Ms is painted with Dupont, thats all I know about it,and it looks a little brighter than the IH paint.
