I have replaced the rear engine oil seal on my 1948 IH Cub several times but it always starts leaking again in a short time. Is there a cure for this and what is the proper replacement seal to do this? Any help on this will be appreciated. Thanks. Gale

Hi, Gale.

You didn't mention the condition of the crankshaft. It has to be pretty well perfect (clean and free of grooves, burrs, dings, gouges, etc.) or it will chew up the seal pronto.

You probably already know this, but most seals are installed "wet" -- i.e., after being dipped in oil or otherwise liberally lubricated. I've heard it said that a dry seal will leak like a sieve from the start.

I have a 154 cub loboy. Has the same c60 engine.
Here is how I fixed mine. Get a new seal get the metal one [NOT THE RUBBER COATED ONE]. clean the coating off of the new seal.Clean the seal and retainer with carb cleaner. Put the seal in the retainer and JB weld it. Do not get jb on the working part of the seal. Mine has been like this for two seasons and not a drip. Hope this helps BILL
