When you grease the distributor shaft, Will some of it go down into the tach drive area or is it a seperate compartment.

Should the tach drive get 80w90 gear lube or grease? Would grease become to stiff during the cold winter weather?

Thank you SDE

There is a page in my 650 operator's manual regarding the tachometer drive unit. It appears that a serviceman must remove the drive unit and smear grease (calls for chassis lubricant) in and around the assembly. Seems like a synthetic grease available now-a-days might be preferable.

You probably have the "pie crust" unit which has an eccentric bore. Turn it till it binds up and back off one notch.

No mention was made of the speedo cable. Powdered graphite used to be the industry standard. You should be able to find something labeled "speedo cable lube" at any autoparts store.

I don't know if it was wrong to do, but I put some Never-Sieze on the cable. Will that be okay or should I clean it off? I though anything is better than nothing, and it had not been on the tractor for the last 4 years and it had not been run in a long time before that.
Thank you SDE
