I just put 2 new water temp gauges in my H and M. I noticed they don"t move much and have just barely gotten into the "run" part if working hard. I took one of them and put it in a pan of water on the stove and when the water boiled, it only got to the U in run. Are those callibrated that bad or did I get a couple lemons?

Hi fellows,

I read with pleasure the forums. Also this subject is an hot issue in farmall Europe.
About the scale of measuring:When the pointer is up-right it's 80 degrees Celsius and when 100 boiling it's on the beginning of the red area.

Many of the cheap gauges come from China like all the ones on eBay and have a wrong scale.I had a few in my collection but it was rubbish.
We got our money back from the supplier at the end!!Due to pressure system the gauges of this Dutch person are in the range of 40-120 degrees.(80 degrees Celsius) pointer upright) I live in Belgium and my farmall buddies an me have arranged with that Dutch gauge developer if he was willing to develop original Farmall gauges.

He was willing to do if minimum quantity was 100 of each.Temp+Oil+Ampere.

These gauges are terrific quality and NOT made in China. We have them in our earlie 560,M,H BMD,SBMD,B-450,WD6,WD9 and they work great and for long.

He sells them througout the world even New Zealand (the Grey MF).He speaks and write English at best.

He has no internet site but he has developed also gauges for many other tractors in same quality like Grey Ferguson.See www.annatefka.com
tHERE is an picture of an MF gauge in same quality:

Link

His name is Arno van Dokkum :his adres is arvando@operamail.com but when you put the name in google he will appear at once and click it.
he is reliable and knows enough about engines and tempertaures also Farmall.

He also can be paid with PayPal system.

Just bought a new gauge from CIH for the 350. On the face it says Rochester (original MFG) as well as made in USA... Box said Made in USA also. Same gauge you all are talking about

When I got my new gauge there was a little arrow above the N in RUN. When I boiled the bulb, that's where the needle went.

Disking on a hot day will make it go to HOT. Usually it never makes it to the middle of RUN.

Bob, were your old gauges still usable? I'm looking for one just to get by with until I buy my correct new set for the restoration. Right now I have none.

Hi Mike, they were both bad. I posted on your later post some stuff I found out about gauges and calibrating them.

Mike,

An aftermarket automobile mechanical temperature guage will work. The guage case diameter is pretty much standard, and the capillary bulb uses a standard pipe thread. Shouldn't be more than about $10.00 for a new one.

Sounds normal to me. My H only gets to the middle to upper side of "run" on a 100 degree day pulling hard for a couple of hours.

Thermostat is 180 degrees and seems to open just before the low side of "run" in the winter.

Sounds normal to me.

"Hot" would show at around 250 degrees.

That is typical, you have to run them at full load in HOT weather to get the gauge anywhere near the high side of run.
