Anyone know where to find an exhaust pipe for a '29 McCormick Deering 10-20? The Fordson House has one for an "early" tractor, but said it won't fit a 1929. The outlet on my manifold points to the rear of the tractor toward the rear gas tank support. This is unlike many 10-20s which have exhaust coming out the side curtain. No hole in my side curtain and the whole exhaust system goes toward and through the rear gas tank support, before turning out the side through a bulbous exhaust elbow. And there is a big empty spot between the manifold and the rear gas tank support where the exhaust elbow starts. Any body making an exhaust pipe for this version?

My father had a '29 10-20 that I drove for a good 10 years. The exhaust pipe came out under the gas tank, as you describe yours. I have vague recollections of a MUFFLER under the hood, but it's been probably 55 years since I've seen the thing that it's all pretty vague now. One thing I do remember: the exhaust pipe is in a dangerous place. Our tractor caught fire when somebody filled the tank with the engine running (very common back then--cranking problems, and all that). Fuel spilled, hit the exhaust, whoosh!
Of course nobody should fill with the motor running, but this particular design is especially likely to cause a problem.

One thing I forgot is a place in Ohio was making the cast elbow for the 29 up ones, I am not sure if they make the other style. I think it was called Rosewood Machine or something like that.

Dan, it sounds to me like you have a 27-8 style 10-20. The first 23-26 10-20 had 2 exhaust pipes out of the hood side, one large and one small and right below the carb. The 27-8 had the pipe with a bulb muffler going through the rear hood sheet and no hole in the side curtain. the 29-39 10-20 had the exhaust going through a cast iron elbow in the corner of the side curtain and the manifold was dual fuel style. The earlier ones (23-28)were ment to run on kero only.

You may be able to get your local muffler shop to
make up an exhaust pipe. Hal
