My H carb leaked like yours. I posted on this site many times for help ( and want to thank everyone for their help!!) and tried all their ideas/ tricks with no luck. I even tried a NOS IH steel needle / seat. I finally, out of desperation, tried another new IH needle/seat/gasket with a brand new IH float and the leak finally stopped . My old float(s) looked good, no pinholes or dimple where the needle touches. I went through many new IH needle+ seats+ gaskets, checked the float height and for binding etc. I guess the new float did the trick!!.

A couple possibilities. The float may be set at the wrong height or it may be binding up on the casting of the carb. I have gotten several kits and found that the needle and seat supplied are not always right or at least not what ws in the carb. If the needle and seat are leaking generally gas comes out the bottom of the carb, there is a felt seal there for that purpose. maybe someone has pluged that hole so it runs out the ari intake or the hose on the intake isn't tight. The suggestion of turning fuel off is good but if the needle and seat and float are right you shouldn't have to do it.

Well Joe, I enjoyed your website so much I thought I would post a note. I envy you your photography skills, knowledge of the universe, and the obviously nice farm with loads of family history. Both my parents left the farm to do the suburban career thing back in the early forties and there is no history left.

Don't have much to add on the carb as I am not an expert. Jim's rule...which was pounded into my skull and is now second nature to me...is a good one. Not all tractors leak. We have an MTA which never leaks and the gas does not get shut off. We also have a B which leaks into the air filter if the gas is left on. It did this before the carb rebuild and after. Rechecked the float and valve but it still leaked. Jim indicated that sometimes these valves need to go thru a honeymoon period before they start to seat perfectly but either way, it is a good plan to shut off the gas. Nice tractor by the way, good luck with it.

Two issues: The fuel tank shutoff needs to be shut off every time the tractor is shutoff for more than 10 minutes. Just make it a habit.
The needle and seat in the float bowl are leaking and probably need to be replaced. Follow the directions, and all will be fine. Remember rule #1 shut off the fuel. Good luck, JimN
