SuperA-tx, here is a image directly out of CIH parts website on Farmall A gen bracket. The bracket you are showing is for Farmall A 1/39-12/47, not Super A generator bracket 1/47-12 53.

These images are directly from CIH on line parts catalog

S-tx, did you see the way I mounted the alternator on Son's SC and a friend's SA. Did not use any part of the original setup. Drilled and tap armature of alternator and used the pulley off of the 6v generator. Had to do it that way cause the water pump is in the way. And I wanted a good clean factory looking installation.
After I drilled and tap armature I found a pulley on a delco alt. that extends out as far as the pulley on the original gen. I'm not sure what the alternator came of of tho. And stupid me I did not get the numbers off the alt. before I scraped it.

I like that Keith. In 1948 they didnt have the water pump so I didnt have to worry about that. In fact my cousin had converted my SA back years ago but the top tension bracket he used was kind of "home made" looking. I had to make one because I just couldnt stand the way he did it. Plus he did a one wire conversion so I changed it to three wire.

I have a 1976 140 that came from the factory with an alt and the mounting bracket on it is really differnat. I thought about checking it out and see if it would work on a SA. It might solve a lot of problems when people try to convert to the alt. The alt also came with a cover that protects it, kind of a shroud with mesh wire in the front. I had told Hugh one time that they had cut the fan shroud but after I checked it out more and saw another one just like mine I concluded it must have came that way.

You know they also changed the tie rods, rockshaft arms, pressure rods for the cultivators, and the mounting pads for the cultivators. Little minor changes but sometimes makes a big differance.

Keith,

Yep, the one shown in your second image is the mounting bracket (#31077) my 1948 SA has. It is also the one shown in the operators manual I have for the SA. I have also seen this same one on other SA's but dont know the dates of the tractors. The image I used was the one that Keith had of his bracket that was hosted at imageshack. Keith said his SA was a 1948 as well and had an alt on it so I suspected his old mounting bracket was used because it worked fine with just a longer bolt.

As Hugh stated there were minor changes made during the production and I guess this mounting bracket was one of the changes. But I'll stick by what I know and that in 1948 they used the old kind of bracket like on the A. When the change was made I have no idea.

Here is Keiths pic. Should be a clickable link to his hosting site.
