I was reading a "For Sale" sign for an H (I do that all the time, no I'm not buying) and the seller mentions that the front wheels on it's narrow front need alignment.

wha??
What can get out of alignment on those two wheels, and how do you align them? I ask because I am starting to piece together a double wheel narrow front end. So I want to make sure I do things right and tight.

If you look at the front tires facing the tractor they are tilted out at the top in at the bottom( just like they were when new) and some people do not know the difference. Might be a cheap tractor to buy!

Maybe we should look at the obvious. Since the front tires on those tractors have a slight angle to them and we all know that to be correct. Maybe this guy has no clue that the tires on a narrow front end farmall are suppose to tilt a little at the bottom. So in his case he feels the tires need to be aligned or straight up and down. Just a thought.

Another answer would be worn bearings on the hubs. Jack up the tractor front and see if there is play when jiggling the wheels. That could feel like an alignment problem when driving.

Maybe he means the steering wheel sits cockeyed when the front wheels are straight. In other words, maybe the steering wheel needs to be removed, turned a bit, and reinstalled. Just a guess.

The steering wheel is not on a splined shaft. It locates with a half moon key. There is only one way it can be installed.

boy thats a new one on me. i dont see anyway to adjust the spindles aside from bending them (real bad idea i think) possibly that tractor has a bent spindle or maybe bent hub. the castin itself is pretty brittle, and would break as opposed to bending. lot of times you'd drop the front end in a ground hog hole or sink hole from a bad tile and snap the tricycle off.

"Alignment" is fixed, he probably means that they wobble in road gear, a separate problem. Unless he has a bent rim or something.
