484 wiring diagram

I have been restoring the wiring in a 1983 484 using a wiring diagram that is close to my tractor but not exactly the same. (And if anyone wants a copy I can either mail or email a PDF file of what I have)

My machine has high/low beam headlights and the diagram I have is just for single beam lights. Right now, the ground wire to the lights isn't grounded and I cannot trace the ground wire back thru the harness to a common ground point.

Anyone out there with a 484 wiring diagram that could help me? Or could suggest where to look for the ground connection. There are four ground wires on an insulated post on the alternator but they do not seem to be part of the general grounding circuit.

Thanks very much.

Hello Jim - well I looked for a ground under the seat support pan and did not find one.

I did find a grounding lug on the left bottom corner of the support frame for the instrument panel that was in need of some serious cleaning. Did that and it helped with some other things like making the engine temp gage and the fuel quantity gage work more reliably.

I did some phone calling to Case/IH dealers in the mid-west trying to find a more up to date wiring diagram. Found several copies of the one I have which does not have my HI/LO beam arrangement.

I think the 484 I have is/was an Industrial/Commercial model hence the HI/LO beam complete with a HI/LO toggle switch on the lower left corner of the panel.

S0 - - - I ran my own ground wire back the the point I found, played with the wiring harness at the lights and found which one was hot when the light selector switch was in the Lights position and now I can turn on my headlights with the selector switch. Not the optimum solution but better than nothing.

Hi Bob, Check behind the seat on the deck plate the seat is mounted on. I think the ground point is on a bolt that holds that deck plate to the rear end housing.

Thanks Jim B. I'll do that and let you know what I find.
