In my jurisdiction (Middlesex County, Mass) all buyers, sellers, and addresses, can be searched. The original real estate documents with property descriptions are scanned into the county database. If you want to know what your neighbor paid, the size is his mortgage, and whether any liens have been filed, it shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes to get that info. The discharge of obligations is also there. I think they go back about twenty years.

It is a great way to find long lost friends provided they still reside in Massachusetts and are not using a realty trust.

I left out the most important part. It can all be done from your computer. Find the website by googling "Registrar of Deeds" and your county.

If this seems like too much work, give the city/town assessor a call. It is public info and they are obligated to release it to whomever asks.

Go to the county courthouse in Woodbridge someone in there should be able to tell you. You may be able to do it over the phone. Hal

What's up with all the archive posts the last few days? Someone has too much time on their hands.

Really? That has to be the longest time lag between post and response I have ever seen! When I want to know who owns a piece of property I contact the local treasurer if there is a property tax or the register of deeds. Do it all the time.

Call the county real estate tax collector. Or the County Registrar of Deeds.
