I want to make sure I don't mess this up!

I am changing the hydraulic fluid in my 400. So far I have drained the pumpkin and the smaller drain plug. I let them drip out overnight and replaced the plugs.

I think I am supposed to put new fluid in the triangular shaped cover kind of near the battery box. How much hydraulic fluid do I put in and is there anything else I need to do?

Thanks!

You are correct, you add fluid thru the cover right ahead of the battery box that has 3 bolts. Ahead of the clutch pedal, about half way down on the case there is a small pipe plug, remove that plug and fill till fluid appears (13-15 gal).
That is the proper level. The hydaulics have a separate reservoir that needs to be serviced separately. Under the gas tank there is a tank with a drain plug ahead of the brake petals, above the rear end housing. Remove to drain. Right above the plug there are 4 bolts in about a 2" square that need to be removed to allow you to pull the filter out. If the filter is ok it can be washed out and replaced, however many times they are collapsed from operating dirty. They are availabe at your Case-IH dealer (pricey). After replacing, you refill thru plug above the filter, It has a dipstick on it and holds a couple gallon +/-.
Good luck!!
