Bought a '36 F-20 a few years ago and kept it on my father's farm. Used it for bushhogging meadows that had grown up in weeds. Before I got it, I had all these fond memories of driving
one of these back in the 40s, plowing, disking, pulling an International 42R combine. Well, I had sorta forgotten what a handful these things are on rough ground. Hold the wheel or the next hummock will take it out of your hands, wear a body belt 'cause when the front wheels go up, your seat goes down, see-saw, see-saw, and boy are they noisy without a muffler. Have to remember it's basically a 1924 tractor with a few improvements in 1932. They didn't worry much about the operator back then. That's one reason the H and M seemed so delightful when they came out.

I use my 35 F-12 skidding logs and pulling a wagon full of firewood, or at least I did last year. I thought I might be working the old gal too hard with some of the trees I was dragging so I picked up an H and M to do the heavy stuff. I did fire the 12 up 2 days ago and filled the starter tank with kero and ran it some on that for old times sake. It is still sitting in the woods in a small shed from last year and am thinking about bringing it home for maintenance like a valve adustment and oil change and a good bath ect. I like the 12 for most small chores because it is easy to get on and off of and has the power to do what I need it for on most jobs. It also drives like a go cart and really snakes around through the trees in the woods easy.

My Dad has a 1933 F-12, and my brother has a 1936 F-12. Me and my Dad are still working on getting them running. My Dad wants a F-30, and I want a F-20 someday. I've got a Farmall H and a John Deere A. I have restored the 1943 Farmall H. We don't farm with them yet, but I'd like to someday. We have lots of tractors we are fixing up and will take them to shows sometime. Me and my Dad also part out and sell tractor parts on eBay, we mostly part out F-12's, F-14's and F-20's. My Dad's eBay ID is rustymccormick

I love antique tractors!

Andy.

I have my grandfathers F-12 with full steel, fenders, overdrive, adjustable widefront, and powerlift. It runs very good, but needs paint. I have my uncles F-12, rear steel and single front rubber. I am in the process of buying 2 F-14's, one pretty much for parts, one dual fuel.

I have a 37 F-12. Dad bought it from a guy in NE Michigan in 1969 for $50 to help move some trees to build a cabin in the woods. Used that tractor a lot. Then about 10 years later, along came a Ford 8N, and the F-12 didn't do much afterwards. I got interested in old iron about then and adopted the tractor. Did what maintenance I could, but things were going down hill over time, and when the fan belt finally broke, I decided if some work wasn't done to it soon, it would swiftly die.

Decided to bring it back to Holland and did some badly needed work to the engine & other peripherials. It had steel on the back and dual rubber up front at the time. Did a 50' restoration about 8 years ago on it. Found a parts tractor with good 36" rubber rims on it and have since bought all new rubber for the tractor.

I live in a neighborhood of ranch style houses, thus it doesn't have much of a chance for any farm work. The kids, and my dad, enjoy driving it around the neighborhood though.

Have had a couple F-20's come and go, and currently have a W-30 as a partner to the F-12.

Ugly things, they are, but something only an old-iron person could only love.

Pete

I've got my Dad's F-14, which his dad traded my mom's dad out of before my parents were married, so it was on both sides of the family. Then I picked up an F-12 trying to sell a Pinto, the only deal I could make was even up trade for the F-12. Recently bought an F-20 and looking for an F-30 because the old iron seemed lonely around all the letter series tractors we use.

I got an old F-12 because it is small and easy to haul around on a trailer. I try to find ways to use it whenever I can. Usually it ends up pullings trailers around. And I drive it in the local parades just for fun. Hasn't been to any tractor shows yet though. Occasinaly I take it out for a nice slow drive around our arear off the beaten path. I'd reallly like to repaint it, cause most of the first repaint job is not so great looking, and Ive added alot of different stuff to it as well. I am hoping to get an F-20 soon, cause that is what my grandpa grew up driving.

When I was growing up,I remeber this rusty old bucket of bolts sitting out near the edge of the woods near our barn.Sat for many years. My Dad told the story of it and how it got it and I never thoguht that mcuh about it until one day I decided I wanted to hear it run, so dad and I spend all day getting it running. I was 10 or 11 at the time. I came home from work one day years later and Dad had called and left me a message on the answering machine to call so I did. He told me how one of the guys who use to work for my great grandfather, who owned the old rust bucket, wanted it and after some dickering he took it home on the condition of when he died we got it back. I was upset because of the memory of dad and I getting it running that day, but this is what started me in collecting, even though we had worked on just about every letter series, since thats what we farmed with. dad died in Sept 1999, and the guy found out about it and I got it back. Ive added some things to it and will soon be re-restoring it since it wasnt the best job, but I have taken it to several shows since I got it back, and Dad is right there beside me.

I bought mine as a project because I had the hots to work on an old tractor. Coulda been any color, wound up with the F14 because it was available, easily transportable, and I could afford it.

I didn't (and won't) do a museum-quality restoration where the tractor comes out better than it left the factory.

I do take it to the occasional tractor show, but that is not my main purpose for having it.

I use mine any time I can find an excuse, mostly for pulling trailers and occasionally pulling a small disk. At the moment, those are the only drawbar implements I have access too. Had a manure spreader but never used it as I compost all my manure and bedding and sell the compost. Looking for a single-bottom trailer plow, have been for several years.

There is some nostalgia involved, as Dad had an F-20 sitting in the shed when I was a kid. This would have been in the early 50's and the F-20 wasn't running. He traded it and a John Deere H towards a McCormick SW6 sometime before 1960.

The F-14 was different from the F-12, in that it had a turbo. I think that is right, did they make turbos back then?

Gene, yes the F14 was turbocharged, the F 20 was turbocharged and intercooled. F30 must have had staged turbos.
Don't think the turbo was in use back then, I do know Cat was playing with them in the mid 40's.

Here's a shot of my F-20 pulling a 12ft IHC dump rake. Doesn't get everyday use, mainly when I've mowed in tight areas like around buildings etc. where it's too much trouble to get the normal haying equipment in there. Also use it to pull a road drag, drag fallen trees/limbs, etc.

i had a F-30 up to 2 years ago, when I sold it to a machanic, or should I say he stole it, Oh well, I plowed and disced and did any heavy pulling with mine. It was good for all farming save planting with a 2 row IHC pull planter as it was a bit too big, and my Case CC did a better job. Also, the belt pulley was slower than the CC, but if and when I used the belt, It did all I wanted and more. GREAT pulling tractor. Hope to get another good one.

My intrest in the F series tractors is just wanting to have somrthing like my Grandpap had. I looked for but never found his '37 F12. I have a '38 F14. It goes to a couple shows every year and gets to do a little belt work. Most of the time it just sits.

My F-12 and my brother's F-14 are just for show/parade duty. I use them from time to time to drag the yard or use the PTO for the auger once in a great while (every couple years, maybe). I don't think I've even had them running in the last two or three years!
