My '55 400 is having trouble. I have spool valves, reservoir is full, screen clean, but power steering will not work at all until a hyd. lever is pulled, then it works like a dream. I tested psi, and it was atleast 300 under factory. Where do i locate a new pump?

Also i have found that there is a plug that sometimes that blows out between the valves and i can not realy explain how to find it as it has been many years ago that i did the last one but it is between the valves. Had that problem with my buddys 450 many years ago.

The pump is NOT the problem. If it were you would not have any better steering when you moved the control valves.

It sounds like you are missing or have a defective flow control valve. Is this a factory installed power steering or added later? If added later, you also need to change the flow control valve to one that includes a priority valve to make sure that the steering gets priority over the control valves. Without a priority valve you will have the condition you are describing.
