Randy,

You pulled what sounds like a stock radiator instalation set up from your '43 H. Could you snap a photo of all the hardware laid out? As for spring size, can you compare them to the fuel tank springs? I will have extra fuel tank springs, but OEM doesn't sell an H radiator mounting kit.
I want to make sure I get it right so the radiator sits how it should, and I can get the sheet metal back on it correctly.

Am I wrong to think that the "correct" pads from OEM will preclude me from having to shim the radiator?

What am I shooting for as far as placement, exactly? I'm assuming I want it centered at the grill hole, and at the correct height so the grill sets right on the frame. Right?

Mike, the biggest issue with the exact location of the radiator is getting that steering shaft to go through the hole in the radiator and NOT rub on anything when you are done. If you accomplish that, everything else will be right.

mike, a hardware store should have an assortment of springs, farm and fleet also has a good selection. finding something close to your spring shouldnt be a problem, i usually get them a little long and then cut them to length. if you need to shim up the radiator, get an old mudflap from a semi truck and use a hole saw to cut out some disks to use as spacers. cut a slot from the outside of the shim to the center so you can slide them between the radiator and the bolster to line it up.

Well, like I said, my concern is more about the fit of the sheet metal. So, I think as long as I get the correct pad in there, and don't cinch it down wrong, I will be ok.

Well it's not like you are going to be bouncing around in a farm field for days on end third party image

So I would say you would be safe in putting it back the way it was, don't think the correct police will be looking there third party image

That makes me believe that the radiator will be bouncing all over the place.
Since I haven't found a source for new radiator springs, and since one of my radiator studs isn't a stock size (it's smaller) I was just planning on using an old fuel tank spring, if any spring at all. There was no spring when I took it off, and it spent years like that.

To me it would make sense to sandwich the spring in between two bigger washers. It I don't put one behnd the castle nut, I would worry about it popping into the spring.

If I remember correctly, the rubber pad goes between the radiator and frame. The studs should have a hole for the cotter pin.

From underneath, flat washer goes on first, then spring, then castle nut and cotter pin.

Mike, I've got the rubber mounting pads, they are the same as the fuel tank pads. I'll look in the parts catalog and see if the springs are the same.

Radiator hold down spring part number 48826D serial# 501 to 122291.
Part number 67205D serial# 122292 and up.

Fuel tank hold down spring part number 51124D.

You can see that the part numbers are not the same, but that does not necessarilly mean that one could not be substituded for the other. Don't know for sure.
