If you had your choice and all things similar, except tires, which would you keep? Farmall M thats a 1942 or a 1947 farmall M? The Farmall M 1942 has four great tires: narrow front setup and the 1947 has need for two new rear tires but has a wide front tire setup with no welds or repairs?

Which one of the two is better mechanically, which one has the better engine, better tin? There is very little difference in the way they would work, all things being equal,so pick the better one of the two if your going to restore one,and do it.

I don't know of any significant difference between a 1942 and 1947 M. But like Lee said, pick the one you want to keep, put the good tires and whichever front end you want on it and there ya go!!

I believe that the decision relies heavily on your preference. Of course the tires are expensive, but which do you like more a narrow front or a wide front. Personally I grew up on a farm with wide fronts on all the tractors so I am partial to a wide front. Most collectors seem to lean to a narrow front.
