Hugh is correct.
If it has a fresh out of frame overhaul, and quality insert bearings on polished journals, and aluminum pistons, it will more than likely do well, However the cam, intake, and timing were designed for 15-1600 RPM. Cranking it higher will not radically change the peak torque RPM for heavy tillage, or real work. JimN

Walley: Depends on what you call damage. A Farmall A was good for about 4,000 hours between engine rebuilds running at 1,500 rpm. with thermosyphon cooling at 2,000 rpm, your probably looking at 2,000 hours between rebuilds.

sounds like another person wanting to go faster. I am not sure why people buy an old tractor and want to change the operation of the machine ffrom normal. The tractor was deigned for maximum performance at ceertain ranges and geared that way also. Seems speed has filtered its way into our hobby .
