I posted this the other day about this 49 massey harris pony. Well I called the guy back and went and picked it up for $600 thursday night. The sheet metal is almost perfect. Just has a brush paint job on it. He told me he replaced a bad piston in it and rings and bearings, but when he got it back together they could not get it to start. He finaly gave up on it. I messed with it today alittle and it is not getting spark. Also gas tank has 2" of real old gas in it. Will have to work on that . Can anyone tell me the firing order on this? Also is the difference between a 11 and a 14 pony Thanks Steve

I have never seen another firing order for an inline four besides the one MikeCA posted.

Have you cleaned / gapped the points ? Checked the valve timing against the timing marks ? The intake valve should close and the timing marks should come into alignment ( I can't imagine that they were running a lot of valve overlap or radical timing). Do the valves close ? Is the distributor / mag rotor pointed at the #1 plug wire when both valves are loose on that cylinder and the timing marks line up? Are the coil, condensor, points any good ? Does it have compression ? Is there power to the distributor? Is the mag grounded ?

I think the Pony and the AC G used the same engine
along with the Earthmaster tractor too. Hal

Some of the Allis Chalmer tractors had a different
firing order. 1-2-4-3 The AC G had the 1-3-4-2
firing order. Hal

Interesting. Looking at the Tune-up Specs, several manufacturers used a 1-2-4-3 firing order. You would think that it would make the motor want to rock front to back. Learn something everyday.

Farmalls have them cast in the block. At least my H does. Try looking there. My H is 1-3-4-2, but I don't know what a pony would be. Sorry.

I know that it is the farmall forum but I know that everyone on this forum is more helpful and try not to make some of us that are not old hand at old tractors feel like we are stupid. Thanks

Do a Google search, you will find a lot of info, such as the link -- I did not look at it, just an example. I imagine the MF board on this site can answer your questions.
