The original subject was "Re: IH UD18A info".

I was reading an archived thread posted about an International Harvester UD-18A engine that starts on gas, runs on diesel. I was hoping for some help. My great uncle was in town the other day and mentioned that he had a M.R.S. (Mississippi Road Service) tractor built in 1944 with the same IH engine mentioned above. He said that he needed two pistons and two sleeves for it. I know that the old fella doesn't use the computer much, and I figured that the internet is where his best shot would be to find parts. He's driving back home to Texas over the next couple of days, and I think that he would be thrilled if I could get my hands on something before he got home. Nobody's looked at this thread since 2001, but I hope that somebody could lend me a hand. I would appreciate any help or advice very much.

Just for information, Mississippi Road Supply of Flora, Mississippi made the M-R-S tractors using mostly IHC components starting after the war. They used the UD-14 and UD-18 engines and they looked like a TD-14 or TD-18 on rubber tires, configured simular to the competitor Cat DW-10 and DW-11. They were sold mostly for construction work with scrapers or bottom dumps but some were sold for agriculture use. Later models, which were built untill the 70's, were very large four wheel drive tractors with Cummins power. Lots of these were sold to the military.

I always thought they started production right after the war, but if his is a 1944 model, M-R-S must have started production during the war. The Flora factory was on a WW-2 Army Base which was made surplus after the war. Prior to the end of the war they must have been in another production facility. Would be intersting to know where this factory was.

The military used a lot of IH tractors during WW2
and I think some of their dozers were used on the Alcan Highway in Alaska. The IH company made those M5 Half Track vehicles too. Hal

If you don't receive any responses on the sleeves and pistons you can check with L.A. Sleeve at 1-800-822-6005. Hal
PS; I think the TD-14 used the same sleeve and piston with the 4.750" bore.

I was talking to a gentlman over the weekend that has a TD-14 and a TD-18. He said that they both use the same sleeve and piston.

I noticed they had same bore and stroke. Hal
PS: The 14 is four cylinder and the 18 is 6 cylinder.
