I need help! The flywheel on the baler will not move forward. When baling heavy hay it stopped, I cleaned out and heard a ping. Flywheel moves about 12" forward & stops. Is it timing? Can"t find anyone to work on it Thanks Mary

BEEN A FEW BALES AGO SINCE WE RAN THE 46"s BUT I DO SEEM TO RECALL NEEDLE GUARDS THAT HAD TO BE MANUALLY PULLED DOWN AND RESET WHEN THINGS WENT HAYWIRE. MAYBE YOUR PLUNGER IS UP AGAINST THEM.

It sounds like the shear pin in the flywheel. If I remember it's a 5/16in soft bolt about 2 1/2in long. The friction at the shear pin casting will move the plunger untill it moves hard. If it is not that I would say to tighten the disc clutch that drives the needles,

If the plunger stops are in the chamber it means more than that they are in there. It likely means the needle carriage is not in home position or the linkage from it to the plunger stops has dropped a pin or otherwise failed.

You need the manual for that baler. I am guessing that the plunger is hitting the stops to keep it from breaking needles when something is out of whack. I will try to find my book and see what it says. I have never worked on a 46, but have worked on 420,430 and a few other brands.

Thanks. I do have manual, but was unable to figure it out. Now I'll know what to look at. Mary
