Got everything back together again.... I seem to have an intermittent miss, there is absolutely no pattern to it at all. Could this be a distributor shaft wear issue? Since I have the timing set amongst the million other things I have done in the past 2 days. It seems to Want to start and stay started it just won't for some reason. Also when this miss occurs it seems to actually bog the starter down where it kind of hesitates due to the pressure. Again, all suggestions are appreciated.

Move the timing 1/8" on the mount opposite the rotation. If better, a bit more, if worse, the other way past where it was to start with. JimN

Forgive me for sounding silly but can you go into a little more detail where to advance the timing?

You can do this without the wires and testers too. Get the timing mark set on the pointer, on the compression stroke. Loosen the bolt that holds the dist down, Turn it back toward the block. Then in DIMLY lit surrounding, slowly rotate the dist toward you. You will see a small yellow spark. That's TDC. I use a small pipe wrench on the pulley shaft for rotating the crank. Have the #1 plug out with your finger tight in the hole to feel the compression stroke. You rotate the engine ccw (driver seat) with the wrench.

Well lets start at TDC.
Turn the engine until #1 on the cap has the rotor pointing towards it, but not yet to the terminal. Find the timing marks, and put a test light, or volt meter on the wire coming out of the side of the distributor. With the ignition off, turn the engine to line up the timing marks to TDC, the fan blade can be used to do, this while pushing in on the middle fan belt to tighten it.
Loosen the two bolts that hold the distributor into the hydro pump. Turn on the ignition and look at the test light or meter. If it is not lit, or not showing volts, rotate the distributor on its mount in the opposite direction of rotation until the volt meter registers volts, or the test light comes on. At this exact location the ignition is at TDC. If the light is on, or volts are showing, turn it in the direction of rotation until it goes out, then go the other way until it just comes on. This is called static timing. Best of luck, JimN

Are you sure the plug wires are in the correct firing order? Should be in this firing order if the rotor turns CW.
2-1
4-3 or in this order if the rotor turns CCW:
1-2
3-4

Pretty sure it is CW but will check to be sure.

They were CW on the gasoline engines and CCW on the gas start diesels. Hal

Did so I need to rotate the distributor so that the 1 post is point in towards the block where #1 would be on a CCW rotation? because according to your previous post I currently have it set to CW rotation. I am just waiting for things to warm up a little bit then I will be out to check which way it is turning. I do not have a test light to do it Jim's way (used it for poking something and broke it.) So I will close the barn door and leave the lights off to check, but also if I have the rotation wrong (wires wrong order) than that means I need to reset the timing again right? As right now the rotor is pointing at 1 o'clock for TDC at "my" #1 terminal when it should be pointing at 11 o'clock at the CCW #1 terminal, is this correct or should I just go back to bed now?

If your engine is a gas engine the rotor will turn CW. If you start on gas and switch to diesel
the rotor turns CCW. You still leave the No1 plug wire on the cap at around 1 o'clock, but switch the other 3 wires in this order. Hal
3-1
4-2
