I can"t get it to stop missing. There was charring on the cap and roter (no hot enought spark??). I replace new cap/roter and cleaned/gapped points to .015" New plugs and coper wires. Took a used 12v coil off a Ford 881 I"m restoring and bypassed the resister block so 12v to the coil and distributer. RPM"s as low as 500 up to 2100. Good power...just misses. What am I missing.

Thank you all for the help!!! For sure I'll check continuity! The charring was mostly on the roter and I cleaned the cap w/out recalling what point in cap was mostly charred. I will look for compresion tester, have old kind (rubber boot you must hold and push on-not threaded on).

The gapping supprised me. I'll open up to .020" on the points and the plugs should be what then? I think I gapped plugs at .025-.028" ???Can't remember now.

Thanks again, Dan

Where was the charring at in the cap & rotor? If it is only on one cylinder that is charred, the spark is not getting from the rotor to the spark plug on that cylinder. Check continuity from inside the cap through the sparkplug wire to the plug.

Check also for a crack on the inside of the dist. cap. Outside also. Sorry for forgetting in first post.

Had the same problem with a M. Put a new distributer in and it runs like a top. Steelwheel ranch got me a new one

I think you should try a compression check. If you have a dead cylinder it will act like a miss.

Gap is .020" not5 15.
Make sure the shaft has no play in it side to side. if it does, it will not run correctly. Wires are:
2-1
4-3
When looking toward front of tractor and cap is on.
If misfire persists, pull off one wire at a time to find the mis, then change the plug to a different cylinder to see if the mis follows the plug. If so get a new one. If not check compression, and valve adjustment. JimN
