I just purchased a 1942 Farmall H that is equiped with an alternater. There is no voltage regulater in place. There is just a wire from the alternater that will arch if grounded while the tractor is running. The tractor still has a magneto ignition. Will any 12 volt voltage regulater work or is there something specific I should look for in order to obtain the correct one.

It is unlikely this needs a voltage regulator. As indicated below, they are built in. We will need to know the model Number of the alternator to help. There are several possible units. The link is to Bob Ms great wiring diagrams. Do not hook up any electricity to the mag, it is only grounded through the kill switch to stop the tractor. It has nothing to do with the charging system. most alternater conversions use an alternater with a built in regulater therefore an external regulater is not required
