This is one HUGE chreey tree! I need to get a rope and wrap around it to see how big it is, but I can say it is a monster and you feel very small standing next to it. It even makes the H look like a lawn mower. The tractor is parked with the front wheels even with the back side of the tree. There were so many small Paw paw trees around it was hard to get a clear pic of it. Just kidding about pulling this one, It is a possible state record tree.

Just yank on it a bit harder. It'll come out... or something will anyway.

Whoa. Just drooling thinking of what I could do with that in the wood shop. Best to keep it in the ground and away from people like me, or those old growth trees will completely disappear.

Hi Bob, Have you talked with a forester about select cutting on your place. I logged off a 40 of hardwood a couple years ago and found one to be a great help. You might be cutting up 5000 dollar logs for firewood. Good luck with your project and be careful, logging is a very dangerous business. PUTTER

Most of the logs and trees I have been cutting have been blown over 4 -5 years ago. We had a small tornado go through and blew some big ones over like dominos. All but one still have the root balls attached. It has sure been a mess, but I have heated the house with just the tops for the last few years. There are still trees I haven"t been able to get to yet! Dad handles all the dealings with the standing timber. He has a few cut every 10-15 years or so to pay the taxes. Every single tree buyer has wanted that cherry! BAD! Dad doesn"t want it cut and I can"t blame him, I like the old stately thing myself and hope it doubles in size. It is like the trees that were here in the early 1800s.

From what I understand, trees that lean or don't grow straight do not make good lumber. After they are milled, they are more likely to warp and are generally unstable. Might be a good veneer log.

That tree just started the lean this year in spring. I think we almost lost it in a bad storm. It is also on a hill side. If it was 100 yards uphill we would have lost it when the tornado came through.

Bob, I say you chain up that Cherry tree and give it a try. I'd like you to have pictures taken every step of the way including when the H breaks in half.
You can't buy memories like that! third party image

Hahahaha! I sure would be the acid test for the rear end rebuild! I really don"t think the ol gal has it in her to move this one. This tree goes up like that for 40-60 ft and then forks and they go up another 60ft Plus, then the top branches out. It is the closest thing we have to a redwood on Dads place. We also have monster Yellow poplar, red and white oaks, but they aren"t this big.
